The King of Silence

from Obsolescence by John Ludi

/

about

This is a song I've had knocking about for quite a few years but never really gave it a serious go recording-wise...until now. I've mainly played it as an acoustic tune.

Lyrically the song has gone though a few rewrites over the past 10 years or so...THIS version is about about depression. It is a bouncy and catchy song about depression that you can dance to. The world needed it. Really.

Also, this HAS to be one of the most 80's-sounding songs I've ever recorded. Even my music from the 80's sounds less 80's than this. So if you liked a lot of the music from the 80's (I did, the non-cheesy stuff) this may appeal to you. If not...you may hate it. Have a nice day either way.

lyrics

The King of Silence

A hollow empty ghost
meanders in a lifeless place
with no purpose or point
and no expression on his face.

And he gathers dust, absent of all pleasure
as he slowly rusts measure by measure.

On his horizon: clouds
and in his past, sallow regrets.
His every step it aches
towards new disappointments met.

He hears other people always laughing, playing
as his face breeds wrinkles and his hair starts graying.

All hail the king, the king of silence.

The static emptiness.
The droning endlessness.
This wishing for a spark
or for the final rest.

Days pass so blankly,
pale hopes beg him stay.
Enough strength still lingers
to breathe another day.

All hail the king, the king of silence.

I am the king, the king of silence.

John Ludi is a musician/singer-songwriter with a wide array of influences and lyrical interests who was "Indie" before the term even existed. Working outside of the music industry by choice has given Ludi the ability to release songs of a level of lyrical depth that are anathema to the minds of the "suits". Ludi lives off-grid in a yurt in the woods of WI and will "fight the power" til he dies. ... more
